Transient response of near-wellbore supercharging during filter cake growth

Supercharging in the vicinity of a borehole is an important factor that affects formation damage and drilling safety, filter cake growth process has significant impact on supercharging borehole. However, existing models predict pore pressure distribution overlook dynamic growth. Thus, analytical model was developed considers time-dependent effects, this verified using two-dimensional numerical model. The influences cake, formation, filtrate properties were investigated systematically. results indicate effects have influence supercharging. increases early stage but decreases over time because magnitude along radial direction. Because growth, falls quickly across decreased caused by increases. low-permeability formations more obvious faster rate lower viscosity reduction permeability can help to weaken order importance influencing factors overbalance > porosity ≈ attenuation coefficient initial control ratio porosity. To alleviate borehole, adopting fluids allow form quickly, optimizing fluid with viscosity, keeping smaller pressure, precise operation at rig site are suggested for during drilling.
